PARIS (WCMH) — A history-making athlete from Ohio earned a gold medal at the Paralympic Games on Monday.
In Paris, France, the Jamestown-native Grace Norman took first place in the women’s paratriathlon, winning her second gold medal in the event. She previously won the event in the 2016 Rio Olympics as the youngest to ever do so.
That wasn’t Norman’s first time making history. She was also the first amputee to stand on the podium of the Ohio High School Athletic Association state championships for track.
Norman said it was a phenomenal race, and that she’s taking it all in and feeling grateful.
“I am overjoyed,” Norman said. “It was a really hard year to get here with a lot of injuries.”
Team USA came away with eight medals in that event alone as they continue to move up the medal count at the Paralympic Games.
