Paris Olympics: What to look for, what to watch on August 5

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — The second week of the Olympics is here and with swimming wrapped up, track & field takes the center of attention to close out the Paris Games.

We’ll also close the book on gymnastics as Biles looks to win two more gold medals and get some single-elimination matches underway in multiple sports. Here is what to watch on day 10 of the Paris Olympics.

Biles aims for more history

Simone Biles has been one of the top athletes of these games and she could walk away with a historic five gold medals after Monday. The seven-time Olympic gold medalist is set to compete in the balance beam final at 6:26 a.m. and the floor exercise final at 8:20 a.m.

At the Rio Olympics in 2016, Biles just missed out on going 5/5 by claiming just a bronze in the balance beam. She enters that final having qualified second behind China’s Zhou Yaqin while she is expected to win the floor exercise with ease. If she can win both, she will tie Larisa Latynina with the most Olympic golds for a female gymnast with nine.

Duplantis, Allman headline night in the field

It’s a relatively quieter night in track and field but the two field finals feature two of the best athletes ever in their respective event. Sweden’s Mondo Duplantis, born in Louisiana, is set to defend his pole vault gold medal on Monday and could set yet another world record.

Meanwhile in the discus, Valarie Allman of Team USA is hoping to defend her Tokyo gold in Paris and give the Americans another gold in the field. Another athlete to watch will be Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands in the women’s 5,000m final. Hassan enters these games as the defending champ in the 5,000m and 10,000m. In Paris, she will run both those races and the marathon.
