COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Buckeye fans will have to plan ahead this season regarding where they are going to park park for home games.
Two parking lots south of the stadium near the Medical Center will close permanently due to a new construction project on Cannon Drive.
Between the Polo and the Dodd parking lots, 2,100 parking spaces were available. OSU Athletics says fans don’t need to panic, there are additional 2,100 parking spots on campus to make up for the ones they are losing.
Construction to renovate Cannon Drive is Set to Begin September 4th. September 9th is OSU’s first home football game against Oklahoma.
“This will be a season-long plan. Oklahoma is our first home game so we are definitely focused on that game,” said Mike Penner, Senior Associate Athletics Director for Internal Operations.
A season-long plan that will force fans who wish to park in the Dodd and Polo campus lots to a new location.
“We have capacity in the 9th Avenue garages and we know we have capacity in the Carmack lot,” said Penner.
Penner, says there are over 18,000 parking spots on campus. He says that is well over enough parking spots to accommodate the roughly 85,000 fans that will attend this year’s games.
Here is what you need to know if you park in the Carmack lot and 9th Avenue garage.
A game day shuttle will pick fans up from both locations for a 15-minute ride to the stadium.
“We are encouraging fans to just maybe arrive a little bit early to navigate. we encourage fans to go online and look at the parking map and come up with a plan for themselves,” said Penner.
