COLUMBUS (WCMH) – A dumpster truck driver is in stable condition after it struck an overpass on I-270.
Both directions of the highway were shut down for a few hours, including the Lockbourne Road overpass after the accident on Monday.
The truck also took down several utility lines, before the dump bed fell off. The truck then slid off the road and ended up in Shawn and Carl Williamson’s backyard.
The couple said they heard what they thought at first was thunder from inside their home.
“He was already out of the truck when we got back here,” said Carl. “He was stumbling back here. I could see blood coming out of his face, dripping down his arms.”
He said another semi-truck driver who witnessed the accident described to him what had happened.
“When he hit the bridge, the bed was all the way up, threw the bed off the truck, slid sideways,” said Carl.
“He said he didn’t know what happened. He kept saying, ‘I don’t know what happened. I don’t know what happened,'” said Shawn.
The Williamson’s said they’re just glad the driver is alright.
“As long as he’s ok. A little bit of shrubs is nothing, but thank god for the trees or he may have come right into our back door,” said Shawn.Keep checking NBC4i.com for real-time updates on this story.
