COLUMBUS (WCMH) — 100 low-income and disabled seniors called the building home, some for decades will have to leave their apartments by tomorrow.

Some residents told NBC4 they have not found a place to move.

“They will help you find an apartment Mr. Thomas,” said resident Lonnie Thomas.

It was a promise made to the 100 seniors living at the Bollinger Tower after this building was sold. The plan is to make it a hotel.

The 11-story building sits on High Street, between Warren Street and Bollinger Place.

Thomas claims he requested not to be located to areas that were drug infested because of his past.

“10 years ago I used to do drugs and I didn’t want to be reminded of that situation,” said Thomas.

He feel his request was ignored.

“What they did give me was to send me right there in that area where I know was very heavily populated 10 years ago and now.”

He said it got worse after he complained about the areas they said were available. He was delivered an eviction notice, it was something all residents who did not leave received.

The notice ordered he had to leave the apartment by June 1 giving him one more month to find a place to call home, and he says he’s been looking.

“This is telling me this is a strategy to try to force me out to anything that’s available.”
