ST. ALBANS, WV (WCMH) — A Kanawha County elementary school teacher is facing charges of driving under the influence of drugs, WOWK-TV reports.
According to the St. Albans Police Department, Amanda Freeman was arrested at around 10:00pm on April 10th at the BP on Kanawha Terrace and Walnut Street in St. Albans.
The arresting officer says he witnesses Freeman was swerving all over the road and crossed the center line. He witnessed her car “braking erratically for several blocks” and that she was bouncing around inside the vehicle, WSAZ-TV reports.
The officer reported that Freeman’s eyes were red and watery, and she could not perform the walk and turn test because she could not stand still.
Police say Freeman is a teacher at Kanawha City Elementary School. She’s listed as second grade teacher on the Kanawha County Schools website.
“It’s always a concern when you have someone that’s in a position of trust who is using drugs and working with children,” Sgt. Dan Wyatt with St. Albans Police told WSAZ. “We entrust the safety of our children to the teachers and staff at schools.”
Freeman is charged with DUI of a controlled substance. She’s currently being held at South Central Regional Jail on a $2,500 bond.
