COLUMBUS (WCMH) – People across Ohio and across the nation are remembering Sen. John Glenn’s legacy tonight.

He was an inspiration to so many including our state lawmakers. Sen. Glenn represented Ohio in the U.S. Senate for 24 years.

There was a definite solemn feeling inside the Statehouse Thursday night.

“Every time I walk into my office, the first thing I see is the picture that he sent me with the capsule and that letter saying ‘keep going’,” said Rep. Teresa Fedor.

She said she has and always will cherish a signed photo and note from Sen. Glenn.

“I will be giving that to my grandson,” said Rep. Fedor. “It is now a family treasure.”

It sits along the window of her office, with the Statehouse gleaming behind it.  It’s a reminder of his legacy as a relentless public servant and American hero.

“How he served people, how he was able to bring people together and get so much done,” said Rep. Fedor.

She said he’s her role model and inspires her in her career today.

“I’m an Air Force veteran and so is he and when I came into the legislature, he kind of took me under his wing,” said Rep. Fedor. “He always followed through with everything he said he was going to do and was honorable when he did it.”

“It’s so sad to hear about our loss and Annie’s loss, our prayers and thoughts are with her,” she said.

Many other lawmakers are also honoring his memory today, including Rep. Hearcel Craig.

“The Senator meant so much to us, but he was even more than just a political figure,” he said. “Somebody you could model yourself after, was Sen. Glenn.”

“Thank God for his service. Thank God for who he was as a person, what he meant for the State of Ohio and certainly to this nation and this world,” said Rep. Craig.
