COLUMBUS, Ohio — For the second time in three seasons, Buckeye quarterback J.T. Barrett has been named the Big Ten’s Quarterback of the Year. The announcement came Wednesday night as the Big Ten announced its league awards for offensive players. Barrett totaled nearly 3300 yards as a rusher and passer this season, accounting for 33 touchdowns. He’s quickly approaching the Big Ten’s career record for touchdowns accounted for. In four of the past five years, a Buckeye QB has won the award.

H-Back Curtis Samuel joined Barrett as a first team pick. Samuel was chosen as a receiver, despite scoring more touchdowns as a rusher (8) than as a receiver (7) this season.

Running back Mike Weber was named the B1G Freshman of the Year after topping 1,000 rushing yards this season along with 9 touchdowns. He was also named to the 2nd team at running back. He’s the first Buckeye RB since Maurice Clarett in 2002 to win B1G Freshman of the Year. Barrett won the award in 2014.

Senior center Pat Elflein was named the Big Ten’s Offensive Lineman of the Year after his first year as a starter at center. Elflein was joined by guard Billy Price on the 1st team offensive line. Offensive tackle Jamarco Jones was named to the 2nd team.

Tight end Marcus Baugh and receiver Noah Brown were named honorable mention.
