COLUMBUS (WCMH) — We are heading into December, and the start of Meteorological Winter (yes Winter Solstice is December 21st).  Most of us think of Winter and we think of cold, but also when you live in Ohio you think of clouds.

On a plus note, the days will be getting longer in about 3 weeks (the amount of daylight increases).Is it really cloudier in the Winter?

Looking at data from the past 5 years here is how the meteorological seasons break down on percentage of cloudy days:

• 50%  Winter (December, January, February)
• 31%  Spring (March, April, May)
• 19%  Summer (June, July, August)
• 27%  Fall (September, October, November)

So is it the colder temps that make it seem gray in December, or is it really just cloudier?

Incredibly enough, since 2012, we have had only 1 non-December month that had December-like cloudy day numbers.  So yes, it is cloudier in December….
