COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Police are looking for a suspect after one man allegedly robbed an elderly man at gunpoint inside his home.

It happened around 9:30am Saturday. An unknown male stopped at an home on Lechner Avenue and asked 74-year-old Gerald Smith if he could make change for a ten-dollar bill.

Smith agreed and turned around to get his wallet. That’s when the suspect entered Smith’s home, showed a handgun and pointed it at Smith.

The suspect and Smith struggled over the gun and two shots were fired. No one was injured in the gunfire.

The suspect stole Smith’s wallet and fled toward a waiting silver sedan.

The suspect is described as a black male in his 40’s. He stands 5’8″ tall. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt with a gray thermal shirt underneath, black pants and black shoes.

He is armed with a semi-automatic handgun.

The suspect vehicle was described as a four-door silver sedan. It may have a temporary tag on the back license plate.
