Columbus (WCMH) – November started on a record note here in Columbus, tying a record at 80°.  It wasn’t that long ago that we hit another record high… two weeks ago to the date.

October was also our 2nd warmest month this year in terms of departure from normal.  At 4.2° above normal, it only trailed March at 6.6° above normalFor October 2016, we ended up being drier than normal:

Rainfall total 1.73″ (0.88″ below normal), and most of this rain fell on only 7 days

  • 0.74″ (19th)
  • 0.51″ (20th)
  • 0.41″ (21st)
  • 0.04″ (27th)
  • 0.01″ (13th)
  • 0.01″ (18th)
  • 0.01″ (30th)

The great news is, we have had rain in the right places in the past month, and it has almost ended our “dry conditions”

  • As of the last drought monitor in September (9/27), 63.49% of the state was considered “abnormally dry”
  • As of the last drought monitor in October (10/25), only 0.69% of the state was “abnormally dry”

Temperatures ran well above normal for the month of October:

  • October 2016 was the 16th warmest October on record
  • The average temperature last month was 59.2° (4.2° above normal)
  • One record high was set on the 18th at 83°
  • One record warm low was set on the 18th at 69°

It was a rather sunny month, which is good:

  • 8 days were considered “clear”
  • 17 days were considered “partly cloudy”
  • 6 days were considered “cloudy”

October was our 2nd largest departure from normal this year, and 5th month in a row above normal

  • +3.6°  September
  • +1.7°  June
  • +1.4°  February

  • -1.2°  January
  • -1.7°  April
