BERNALILLO CO., NM (KOB/WCMH) – An angry altercation at New Mexico’s Route 66 Casino left a man injured and a woman behind bars Friday.
Police say a woman tried to run a man over and assaulted in the casino’s parking lot.
It all started when a man was just trying to save a parking spot when a woman hit him with her car and pointed a gun at him.
45-year-old Yvonne Aragon was arrested.
“The victim stated that he was saving a spot for his wife to park in,” said Captain Andi Taylor with the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department. “So he was standing in the parking spot.”
Police say Aragon pulled up and hit the victim with her car, leaving a bruise on his leg that matched her license plate.
Then things got even more heated.
“He then got angry, threw a cup of coffee at the foot of her car, and that’s when she pointed a pistol at him and said ‘why don’t I just shoot you,’” Taylor said.
Aragon admitted to police that she hit the man with her car, but denied pointing her gun at him.
“Even if it were a fake weapon, even if it were a squirt gun, it’s what’s perceived as a weapon by the victim,” Taylor said. “But this actually was a .380 caliber pistol.”
Aragon is in jail right now but could be released on bond.
“We’ll see what happens after the trial,” Taylor said. “Potentially, she has felonies on her record all because she was impatient and decided to react in a hostile, negative manner.”
Taylor also said he hopes other drivers will remember to have patience.
“Take a deep breath,” he said. “It’s not worth your freedoms and thousands of dollars.”
