SURREY, Canada (WCMH) — Wilfram and Anita Gottschalk broke hearts with a tearful goodbye photo after they were admitted to separate nursing homes. Now, they have reunited joyfully and are living together once again.
In the viral Facebook post from an Ashely Bartyik on August 23, she said the couple was separated because of backlogs and delays in the health care system that kept her grandpa from being moved to the Morgan nursing home, the same one as Anita.
“They cry every time they see each other, and it is heartbreaking,” she says in the post. The couple has been together for 62 years.
Bartyik announced their reunion Friday on her Facebook page.
“Thursday our family joyfully witnessed the reunification of Wolfram and Anita Gottschalk. Wolfram has finally been moved to the same facility as Anita at the residence at Morgan Heights,” she said.
“The reunion saw tears of joy for all involved. They can now be under the same roof for their remaining years, and we couldn’t be more grateful.”
