DAYTON (WDTN) – A dead child was found at a homeless shelter in Dayton.
Police received a call around 5:35am on Thursday with reports of a dead child at the St. Vincent’s homeless shelter in the 100 block of West Apple Street.
After officers arrived, the Montgomery County Coroner was called to the scene. The coroner was seen removing the body of a child from the homeless shelter.
Investigators have not said whether foul play was suspected.
St. Vincent de Paul posted a statement on their Facebook and Twitter accounts Thursday.
The entire St. Vincent de Paul organization is deeply saddened by the death of an infant guest this morning at our Women and Family Shelter. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and everyone who has been impacted by this tragedy. While we cannot comment on the specifics of the situation, we will cooperate fully with the police as they investigate.
