CORNING, OH (WCMH) – The Perry County Sheriff’s Office says that they have arrested a fugitive wanted by the Columbus Police for involuntary manslaughter and drug-related offences.
Perry County Sherriff William R. Barker says that deputies apprehended 32-year-old Kyle Payton Smith at a residence on Bearfield Township Road in Corning, Ohio after an hour-long standoff. The sherriff’s office says that once Smith learned that the deputies were going to release a canine officer into the residence, he surrendered without incident.
Smith is wanted by the Columbus Police for involuntary manslaughter, corrupting another with drugs, drug trafficking and drug possession charges. Smith was transported to the Southeast Ohio Regional Jail in Nelsonville. He will appear for an extradition hearing back to Franklin County.
