ALBANY, NY (WNYT) For most of us, watching TV was a regular part of our childhood, but now that our lives involve so much more than just the TV, how does that have an impact on our children?

The iPad, iPhone and everything flashing on them is all very fascinating for them.

“It’s certainly not recommended under the age of two to have any screen-time at all,” notes Pediatrician Dr. Diane Tenenbaum.

It’s not dangerous she says. The real concern is the effect it can have on a young mind developmentally in areas like language, focusing, attention span and social interaction.

After two years old the rules change: No more than two hours of any screen time in any 24-hour period.

So if you do let your toddler watch some TV, Dr. Tenenbaum suggests as a parent you really need to be in the room, and you need to be viewing the content with your child. She says an educational-type program is best.

After watching the program, Tenenbaum recommends talking to the child about the show.
