(WCMH) — Goats and rodents!
Let’s begin at Cardington-Lincoln Senior and Junior High School.
During a recent inspection, the Morrow County Public Health Department discovered rodent waste, and evidence of rodents gnawing on boxed and canned foods in the dry food storage area of the school’s kitchen. Inspectors also spotted evidence of rodents gnawing on ceiling tiles.
A Cardington-Lincoln Local Schools spokesperson told NBC4’s Tom Sussi that none of the food was compromised, and a licensed pest control company is addressing the unwanted visitors. The spokesperson added, “This is not something we take lightly.”
Now, over to the Tropical African Market, 5266 Cleveland Avenue. The Franklin County Public Health Department recently issued the northeast side market a warning letter for selling meat from an “unapproved source.” In this case, goat meat.
During a recent inspection, inspectors uncovered the following in a walk-in cooler.
- Pieces of uncovered goat carcasses
- Whole partially uncovered goat carcass
- Vat of goat fat
In their report, the inspector noted the goat is “not permitted to be sold or processed.” By order of the inspector, the goat meat and carcasses were discarded.
Before meat can be sold to the public, the health department said from the time it’s processed, it must be inspected and approved by the Ohio Department of Agriculture. The health department added that the business is not licensed to process and butcher meat, either.
