COLUMBUS (WMCH) — Just two more days of summer vacation for Columbus area school kids. Class for many start on Wednesday and Major League Cutz’ Barbershop on the city’s east side is making sure students go back to school in style.

“Today we are doing back to school haircuts for little boys 16 and under for $2,” said Randy Brunston, manager if Major League Cutz’.

Some lucky students will also walk in their classroom with a free backpack and school supplies.

“I think it is awesome for the kids,” says parent Asia Germany. “Especially for the kids that can’t afford haircuts like on a regular bases and just for them to have to come in and only pay $2 that’s awesome.”

This is the first time the barbershop has dedicated a day to students.

“We just want to give back to the community,” said Larry Majors, owner of Major League Cutz’. “You know a haircut makes the kids feel good. If they go back to school feeling good, then hopefully they get good grades.”

Majors say barbershops are pillars in the black community. It’s a safe haven for kids, and a place where they can learn life lessons.

“I was in jail and I had a dream. When I got home, this is what I wanted to do. I went directly to barber college. Stay in school and tell them what you’ve been through, and hopefully they will understand and not want to go down the path you went down,” Major says.

Last call for $2 haircuts is tonight at 8pm.
