Ever wonder just what is in a chicken nugget? According to the National Chicken Council, chicken nuggets are simply made from meat from a chicken. Most chicken nuggets start as meat from a split breast of chicken. Other meat from legs and things could be added.

The meat is ground and formed like a meatball, then breaded and cooked.

The National Chicken Council says that mechanically separated chicken, also known as pink slime, is not typically used in chicken nuggets or patties. If it is used, it must be declared as an ingredient on the label.

McDonald’s, one of the largest servers of chicken nuggets, recently announced that Chicken McNuggets no longer contain artificial preservatives.
