CHARLOTTE, NC (WCMH) — Five burglary suspects are all in jail after they tried to break into the same house twice in the same night.
The homeowner says he arrived home around 7:00pm Friday night and found several people inside. He managed to sneak back out undetected and called 911.
Officers quickly arrived on scene and managed to captured two suspects, Johnny Penny, 33, and Javonte Cathcart, 24. The three other suspects took off on foot.
“I looked out my window at 5 or 6 and there were six or seven cop cars out here and I had no idea what was going on,” next door neighbor Kathryn Ruland told NBC affiliate WCNC-TV. “It could have happened to anybody.”
Officers then began investigating the crime and taking evidence. Two hours later, while officers were still inside the home, three of the original suspects came back to break into the same home again.
Police say when the suspects came inside and saw officers there already, they tried to run but did not make it very far.
Those three suspects, Malik Long, 20, Khalil Wallace, 18, Jamaka Culbreath, 16, are all facing felony breaking and entering charges. Penny and Wallace also face additional charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
