LOVELAND, OH (WCMH) – Police say a missing four-month-old baby girl’s body has been recovered after she was abducted from a Cincinnati area Dollar General parking lot.
Kaylynn Jai Crawford’s body was found in the Little Miami River still strapped into her car seat, NBC affiliate WLWT-TV reports. The girl’s father, Charles Crawford, led police to the baby’s body.
Crawford is now being held in the Clermont County Jail after police say he filed a “fabricated” missing child report for his daughter, Savalas Kidd of the Ohio BCI said. The missing child report went out around 8:40pm Sunday after Crawford called 911 to say his 15-pound infant daughter was gone.
“She was in the car. I only stepped out to grab her some water because she was asleep. And I came back out because I needed my wallet – it was like two or three minutes. I get in my car because my wallet was in her diaper bag…and she was gone,” Crawford told 911 dispatchers.
Police spent the morning processing Crawford’s car at his girlfriend’s apartment nearby. The search then later led investigators to Kelley Nature Preserve in Loveland.
“We just got some cellphone, preliminary cellphone searches and things. Something might have pinged in this area, but we don’t have anything,” Loveland police Sgt. Jose Alejandro told WLWT.
The girl’s body was recovered by the Clermont County Coroner.Keep checking NBC4i.com for real-time updates on this story. To get alerts for breaking news, grab the free NBC4 News App for iPhone or Android. You can also sign up for email alerts.
