COLUMBUS (WCMH) — The Clinton-Kaine ticket travelled across Ohio, finishing the weekend with a stop in Columbus at Fort Hayes on Sunday.

Thousands of supporters waited in the sun for hours to hear them speak.

“We need unity and we need love and that’s what we’re getting from Hillary,” said supporter Carolyn Preston.

Hillary Clinton’s running mate, Tim Kaine spoke first when they arrived.

“I think it’s time for the strong men of America to show that we can stand up and support a strong woman president of this country,” he said.

Hillary Clinton talked about the economy, job creation, education and equal pay for women, among other things.

“You’ve heard it before, but I’ll say it again: The fastest way to raise incomes in America is to pay women equal pay for the work we do,” said Clinton. “This is not just a woman’s issue. This is a family issue. If you’ve got a working mother, wife, sister or daughter it’s your issue.”

Clinton also mentioned Humayun Khan, an American Muslim Army captain who was killed in Iraq, and accused Trump of “insulting the family of a fallen soldier.”

“When his father spoke at the convention and pulled out a copy of the Constitution, it was so fitting that happened in Philadelphia, where our country started 240 years ago,” said Clinton. “They enshrined in our Constitution the principle of religious liberty. They understood that America would be including and attracting people from all over the world.”

Andy Henry supported Bernie Sanders, but came to see Clinton speak for the first time.

“Hillary won the contest; it was a good fight and I want to support her,” he said.

17-year-old Cece DiSabato will be voting for the first time in November and is set on helping to elect Clinton.

“I just think it’s really awesome that we can finally have an opportunity to have a woman president who’s going to stand up for children’s rights, women’s right and so many great things for America.”

“We Americans are better when we roll up our sleeves,” said Clinton. “We set some goals and we work together because yes we are stronger together.”

While Clinton heads to Omaha, Nebraska, Republican Presidential Nominee Donald Trump will take part in a Town Hall forum on Monday at the Convention Center.
