COLUMBUS (WCMH) — After more mosquitoes tested positive for the West Nile Virus, the Franklin County Public Health Department has scheduled spraying for several central Ohio communities.
According to FCPH, they have been actively trapping mosquitoes throughout the county since mid-May and will be spraying to reduce the number of adult mosquitoes in the area.
The spraying schedule is as follows:
Wednesday, July 20
- Gahanna West – due to high trap numbers
- Westerville West – due to high trap numbers
- Prairie Township North – due to West Nile virus-positive mosquitoes
Thursday, July 21
- Sharon Township South – due to high trap numbers
- Riverlea – due to high trap numbers
- Clinton Township East – due to high trap numbers
- Mifflin Township – due to high trap numbers
- New Albany – due to West Nile virus-positive mosquitoes
- Plain Township – due to West Nile virus-positive mosquitoes
The spraying is schedule to being at about 9pm, depending on weather.

FCPH says it is a good reminder for residents to take precautionary steps to protect themselves and their families.
- Wear insect repellant containing DEET (follow package directions).
- Limit outdoor activity at dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are most active.
- Eliminate all standing water around your home (mosquitoes breed in water and it doesn’t take much time).
