COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – On the same day a Columbus police sergeant was sent home from the hospital, footage was released from his body-worn camera that showed him getting struck by a stolen car and shooting at the driver.
Also caught among the multiple videos released Friday by Columbus police was the moment that the driver, with two bullets through her leg, asked arresting officers, “Does anybody have a [expletive] cigarette? Does anybody have a cigarette? For real.”
The sergeant — who has gone unnamed, with Columbus police citing victim’s rights protections under Marsy’s law — was released from Grant Medical Center after he was rammed by a stolen vehicle Wednesday on the North Side.
Arrested after a pursuit was Holly Graham, 32, who remained in a hospital and missed a scheduled court appearance Friday.
Watch: Sergeant rammed by car; viewer discretion advised
Police responded about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday to the Beechcroft neighborhood on reports of a stolen 2015 Toyota Corolla. Police decided not to pursue after the car got away, and it was spotted again about 20 minutes later at a gas station on East Dublin Granville Road near Sinclair and Huntley roads.
The car drove around stop sticks deployed at the gas station and crossed over to Huntley Square, where the collision with the sergeant was recorded.
The sergeant was shown running from his vehicle into the shopping center parking lot, where other officers were trying to deploy stop sticks again.
“Stop the car!” he yelled twice upon pulling his weapon, having moved in front of the car after it backed away from an exit blocked by stop sticks.
The car began moving forward and rammed the sergeant, who took multiple shots through the windshield. Thrown off the car, he fell down but stood right back up, in the middle of Dublin Granville Road. Graham opened her door as police including the sergeant converged, but then she closed the door and drove away.
Heading west, Graham hit two cars head-on near the interchange with Interstate 71, activating the airbag. Her car no longer operable, Graham was apprehended.
Footage from another responding officer showed the aftermath, with Graham lying in the road, bloody and with two bullets having gone through her leg. She spoke to officers several times, asking for the cigarette as well as saying she wanted a tourniquet.
Graham has been charged with felonious assault. Police in Lancaster report the car was stolen that morning from a parking lot at Fairfield Medical Center.
