PLANO, TX (WCMH) – Toyota announced the recall of 1.4 million cars over faulty airbags.

The affected cars are model year 2010 through 2012 Prius, 2010 and 2012 Prius plug-in hybrids and 2011 and 2012 Lexus CT 200h vehicles.

According to Toyota, the cars can develop a crack that widens over time, causing the airbag inflator chambers to separate.

If an inflator separates, the airbags could only partially inflate during a crash and one or both sections of the inflator could enter the interior of the vehicle.

Toyota says all owners of the involved vehicles will be sent a letter informing them of the recall. The company says Toyota and Lexus dealers will install retention brackets at no cost.
