COLUMBUS (WCMH) — The Ohio State University and Campus Partners are announcing a new revitalization plan for the area around 15th and High Street.

The historic intersection will feature a new public space on the east side of High Street, soon to be known as University Square.

“This entrance was first defined in 1904 in master plans for the university so it’s important and it’s time to re-imagine the entrance and its connection to the university district,” said OSU’s associate Vice President of planning and real estate Keith Myers.

This plan is 2 and a half years in the making, that focuses on connecting OSU’s campus and the University District.

“It helps continue Columbus’s re-imagining of itself,” said Myers.

Key components include a pedestrian-friendly environment, a new comprehensive parking strategy, mixed-use buildings for local retailers and restaurants and, where it’s possible, converting some streets to two-way traffic.

The plan covers about 9 acres along High Street between 14th and 17th Avenues.

It’s unknown how much the entire project will cost, but they will be investing about $30 million in utility infrastructure improvements.

Construction is expected to begin on some of the parcels in about 60 days. What others are clicking on:
