TAMPA, FL (WFLA) – Life has changed dramatically for a paralyzed dog who was left at a Tampa animal shelter with a heartbreaking note saying the dog’s owner could not afford to pay for surgery for her.

“Genie” was left on the doorstep of the Humane Society of Tampa Bay at the beginning of May. The handwritten note that was left with the small brown and black dog was enough to make any animal lover cry.

“Please help my Genie. Genie (her name) is paralyzed from I believe her hips to her hind legs. I tried to manage her pain with medication from her vet but they only ease her pain and she needs surgery. I cannot afford so I ask that the Animal Health Center heal her and find her a loving forever home. Thank you,” said the note.

The Humane Society of Tampa Bay embarked on a mission to help Genie. They set her up with a temporary set of wheels to help her walk and started a fundraising campaign.

One month later, the adorable paralyzed dog with sweet brown eyes has a brand new set of custom wheels to get around with and a new “fur-ever” home.

It turns out, Genie was adopted by her foster mom.

“Genie’s new Mom is what we like to call a “Foster Failure”- after fostering Genie since the middle of May she has fallen and love and is making her an official part of the family!” said the Humane Society of Tampa Bay when announcing the good news.
