COLUMBUS (WCMH) – Walmart will soon be testing a new way to bring products to your front door.
CNBC reports that Walmart CEO Doug McMillon will announce a grocery delivery pilot with Uber and Lyft in two cities over the next two weeks.
Customers in Denver, Colorado and Phoenix, Arizona will be able to place a grocery order online and select a delivery window.
A Walmart employee will then select the items from the shelves and prepare the order. Then, the store will request and Uber or Lyft driver to come to the store, pick up the customer’s order and take it to the customer’s location.
Walmart expects a $7-10 delivery fee to be charged at the time of placing the order.
“We’ll start small and let our customers guide us, but testing new things like last-mile delivery allows us to better evaluate the various ways we can best serve our customers how, when and where they need us,” said Michael Bender, Walmart Global eCommerce Executive Vice President in a blog post.
Walmart’s announcement comes after Amazon’s recent expansion of its Prime Now service to several cities, including Columbus. Using Prime Now, Amazon customers are able to arrange for one-hour delivery of many items, including groceries.
Amazon expects to have Prime Now available in more than 50 markets by the end of June, according to CNBC.
There is no indication of if and when Walmart will expand its same day delivery service to Central Ohio. What others are clicking on:
