Amazon says its Prime Now warehouse has tens of thousands of items, with key essentials like paper towels, milk and ice cream. The warehouse also contains electronics such as laptops and Kindle devices.

But the overall size is still tiny compared to a full fulfillment center like the planned building in Obetz which will contain millions of items.

The service uses a network of independent contractors to make deliveries. Amazon Flex drivers make between $18 and $25 per hour and are dispatched using a smartphone, much like ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft. It is available seven days per week between 8am and 10pm. Two-hour delivery is free for Prime members, and one-hour delivery is available for $7.99.
