CANAL WINCHESTER, Ohio (WCMH) — Two people are dead and two others injured in a vehicle collision Monday night.
According to Ohio State Highway Patrol, two people were pronounced dead on the scene of a crash on Gender Road and West Waterloo Street. The crash happened around 6:50 p.m. when a 2016 Tesla Model S, traveling west on West Waterloo Street crossed the intersection and struck a 2015 Buick Enclave, which was heading south on Gender Road.
The driver of the Buick, 60-year-old Wayne Smith, and a juvenile of an unidentified age, were pronounced dead at the scene. Two others were injured in the accident; a second passenger in the Buick was taken to Mount Carmel East Hospital in serious condition and the driver of the Tesla was in stable condition at Grant Medical Center in stable condition.
Gender Road was closed in both directions between Winchester Boulevard and the U.S. Route 33 overpass due to the crash.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation according to Ohio State Highway Patrol, though initial reports indicate speed was a factor.
