LICKING COUNTY, OH (WCMH) — A man was killed and five others, including three Denison University students, were injured in a crash on state Route 161 Tuesday night.

Troopers were called to the area of mile post three on SR 161 at about 10:49pm, Tuesday, on the report of a two vehicle crash.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 2000 Ford Windstar was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of S.R. 161 when it struck by a 2004 Dodge Caravan that was traveling eastbound.

The 29-year-old man who was driver of the Windstar was taken to St. Anne’s Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. He has not been identified pending notification to his next of kin.

A passenger in the van, 40-year-old Shukri Ibrahim, of Columbus, was taken to Grant Medical Center with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Caravan, 21-year-old Maria Aybar of Lawrence Massachusetts, along with her three passengers including 21-year-old, Sebastian Velasquez of Astoria, New York, 21-year-old, Julianny Cuevas of Lawrence, Massachusetts and 20-year-old Juan Bernabe of Lawrence, Massachusetts were all transported to Grant Medical Center.

Three of the people in the Caravan were Denison University students. Troopers initially said everyone in the Caravan were from the school, but the university stated that only three were Denison students.

According to Denison University, one student remains in critical condition, one is in stable condition and another was treated for minor injures.
