SPRINGFIELD, MO (NBC/KYTV) – Over the weekend, a young Missouri boy began selling his own lemonade. But he wasn’t doing it to buy a bike or new toys, rather to get a family of his own.

9-year-old Tristian is selling lemonade to help fund his very own adoption.

“I’ve kind of coached him on some things to say. And he gets a little nervous and stuff,” said Donnie Davis, Tristian’s foster mother. “He thanks them, and says thank you for supporting our adoption. So, it’s kind of precious.”

Davis got the call 4-years ago when Tristian’s biological mom, living a life of prostitution and drugs, left the then-5 year old on the door step of a shelter on a 17-degree January day.

“I was scared to death, if he was scared, if he was hurt, what was going on through his mind,” Davis said.

But Tristian has a new life now living with Davis. One in which he’ll feel safe and loved, and thankful for a family to call his own.

“Because she’s better, I know she’s responsible taking care of me and I think she’s going to be a great mother,” Tristian said, just now hoping for a chance to make it official.

“He’s already a part of our family. In mine and my husband’s hearts, that’s our son,” said Davis. “He wants to be legally ours.”

Tristian has surpassed his $5,000 goal and has raised over $11,000 as of Monday afternoon. What others are clicking on:
