HILLIARD, Ohio (WCMH) — The Hilliard Division of Police has announced the results of a special enforcement operation aimed at cracking down on I-270 speeding this summer.
In a social media post, the agency said officers targeted “nighttime racing and speeding” as part of a partnership with the City of Dublin and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
The Friday, June 7 outcome included:
• 108 mph: top speed recorded
• 29 traffic stops
• 21 citations written
The City of Dublin made a similar post, noting the success of the same I-270 nighttime patrol.
As part of its Slow Down Dublin efforts, the city said it worked with Hillard police, Columbus Division of Police, and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
The results from multi-agency patrol in Dublin on I-270 included:
• 98 mph: top speed recorded in Dublin
• 45 total traffic stops
• 34 total citations written
Dublin stated that “resident feedback about speeders at night” was the motivating force behind taking action on the west side of the outer belt.
Many of the comments on the posts offered thanks for attention to this problem.
“Thank you! This is a huge concern and I appreciate your effort,” one person replied.
“It is terrifying to drive on 270w between the Broad Street exit all the way up past Tuttle,” said another neighbor. “I hope you all stay out there until all these reckless drivers get the message!”
