COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Court records have identified the suspect in Tuesday’s multiple stabbing that injured three and resulted in the suspect being shot at by Columbus police.

Police said the suspect, Benjamin Paul Kelch, 66, of Columbus, remains hospitalized following the incident.

According to court records, Kelch is currently charged with one count of felonious assault.

On Tuesday, officers arrived at a home on the 300 block of Hoskins Way to allegedly see Kelch with a knife approaching a man who was sitting on the porch, court records state.

According to Columbus Police Sgt. James Fuqua, officers were able to subdue Kelch after two Taser deployments. During the encounter, at least one officer fired his gun; it remains unclear if Kelch was shot.

Once Kelch was in custody, officers found three stabbing victims at the scene. All three victims were hospitalized and are expected to recover from their injuries. Kelch was last listed in a stable condition at the hospital.

There is currently no court date listed for Kelch in online records.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the shooting, which is standard procedure after a law enforcement officer fires his weapon at a crime scene.
