DUBLIN, Ohio (WCMH) — A film production company is trying to bring a slice of Hollywood to central Ohio after agreeing to buy an over 200,000-square-foot building in Dublin.

Kevin Kale, CEO of Fallback Studios, said he wants to make Columbus a hub for filmmaking. He said he wants to bring movie production to Ohio to help locals, and this new studio is just one step to making that dream a reality.

“At the heart of what we’re doing is the people,” Kale said. “It’s the folks within the community, it’s the folks within the industry and we want you to know, we want to create an opportunity for them to grow, to expand and be a part of something special.”

The building will soon become a state-of-the-art film studio with five sound stages, a theater and podcast rooms.

“So, the vision of the building is to be really end to end production, both major film and TV,” Kale said. “When I talk about end to end, that includes pre-production and production, and in post-production.”

Kale believes he can grow Ohio’s film industry to $3 billion in the next five years. According to advisor Julianna Politsky, another goal is to be seen as an outlet for big studios on both coasts, inviting them to come and film their movies here at a cheaper cost.

“I think this industry is in a changing moment. I come from Hollywood — I’m originally from Ohio — but Hollywood is looking to save money,” Politsky said. “You know, they are making less, but they want to make more with less meaning they want to save dollars in any way possible.”

The studio hopes to bring in hundreds of jobs a year for people in the community once it’s up and running. Kale said they hope to highlight the value of those who are interested in the entertainment industry in central Ohio.

“There’s a tremendous amount of talent in the city of Columbus, whether it’s directors, writers, crew, freelancers,” Kale said. “And this this really creates the opportunity for them to be even more successful than they than they already are.”

The plan is to have phase one of the studio open by the second quarter of 2025.
