ON AIR (WCMH)–Meteorologists around the country paid tribute Tuesday to a weatherman who killed himself last week.

Russell Bird is a Cincinnati native and an Ohio State University graduate who worked for KTVZ in Oregon. Meteorologist shared tributes on social media, and many wore red–the color of the Cincinnati Reds, of the Buckeyes, and of Bird’s high school team, the Lakota West Firebirds. Bird also attended Miami University, whose mascot is the Redhawks.

Bird was 27. He had been with KTVZ since July 2015.

A fellow meteorologist said Bird had been struggling with depression, and reached out for advice on a private Facebook group for meteorologists around the nation.

NBC4’s Harrison Hove was one of many who responded to Bird.
