COLUMBUS (WCMH)–Crews have contained a gas leak at the Kobacker House that nearly caused the evacuation of several patients.
It happened at the Kobacker House on McConnel Drive Wednesday after a vehicle hit an unburied natural gas line and caused the leak.
Columbus Fire personnel say the call came in at 2:13pm. Columbia Gas arrived by 2:36, but was unable to contain the gas leak and had to call for extra equipment.
Twenty-three patient and staff members were on scene and a plan was in place to evacuate them to Riverside Methodist Hospital if the needed.
Kobacker House issued this statement:
Updated statement: we have not yet evacuated patients. We have a plan in place to do so if Columbus Fire advises. All 23 are ready to be evacuated to Riverside. We are taking all precautions necessary to assure the safety of our patients and associates.
