SYDNEY, Australia (WCMH) — Forget about Amazon’s drone delivery or Google’s driverless cars. Dominos may have the future piece of technology you really want right now: Robots that deliver your pizza.
Meet Domino’s Robotic Unit, or DRU for short. The self-driving pizza delivery drone can hit speeds of 12 mph and has sensors so it doesn’t run into obstacles. It can drive 12 miles on a single charge, and it has a built in oven to make sure your pizza stays warm the entire trip.
In case your worried about someone snatching your order before it gets to your house, the robot only opens if you put in a unique code. That code is sent to your smartphone after you place the order, ensuring you and only you can get your pizza.

The good news? This isn’t science fiction. DRU is really happening, and Dominos’s say its already made one successful pizza drone delivery. The company is working to test it further before launching it everywhere.
“DRU is cheeky and endearing and we are confident that one day he will become an integral part of the Domino’s family. He’s a road to the future and one that we are very excited about exploring further,” Domino’s said in a release.
