NEW YORK (WCMH)–Two New York Police Department officers saved a litter of kittens in Brooklyn last week, officials said.

A woman called 911 to report the half-opened suitcase sitting in a parking lot around 7:30 a.m. March 10. Police found seven kittens inside, one of which had died.

Surveillance footage showed a man throwing the suitcase over a wall, police told the New York Daily News.

The ASPCA now has custody of the kittens, Capt. William Gardner, the commanding officer of the NYPD’s 90th Precinct, told the NY Daily News.

“There were people lined up to take them. Cops were looking to take them home,” Gardner said.
