(NBC) — The Blind Auditions are complete on NBC’s “The Voice” and the Battle Rounds begin Monday, and at least one contestant has more on his mind than singing.
The Battle Rounds alone are enough to fire up the contestants, but Team Gwen’s Jan Dan had even more on his mind with his wife going into labor with their baby, just a little added drama to get things started.
“I ask the producers, how do you all find these people?” said coach Reba McEntire. “Twenty-six seasons? My gosh, I didn’t know there was that many talented people in the world, but there’s that and more.”
Yet even talented singers can still be starstruck.
“I am so excited to make a team, let alone team Reba, I am just on cloud nine,” said contestant Alison Elena.
So, bringing artists down to earth is sometimes part of the job when the coaches start rehearsals for the Battles.
“You know, they would say, ‘Oh my gosh, I can’t believe I got an email from the Queen,’ I say ‘OK, let’s cut through this, let’s just talk about what we’re gonna be doing,’” said McEntire.
Which is to turn in performances not just worthy of moving on but that dazzle viewers and the coaches. And as she enters her third season of battles, McEntire already knows how she feels about the process.
“It’s so much fun,” said McEntire. “I’ve made more friends on this show, and I absolutely love it.”
Watch “The Voice” Monday at 8 p.m. on NBC4, followed by “Brilliant Minds” at 10.
