A Colorado doctor who dyed a patient’s genitals purple still has his medical license, but thousands of people are hoping to change that.
According to KKCO/KJCT, Dr. Barry King was treating a woman for a cyst in January 2017 when he used a dye called gentian violet to dye her private area. King claimed it was a joke and pleaded guilty to harassment charges last year. He was fired from his job at Colorado West Woman Care in Grand Junction and ordered to perform community service and apologize to the woman. However, court records show his medical license is still valid and an online petition is demanding that the Colorado Medical Board change that.
“In my mind, doing that to somebody’s personal parts is no different than molesting them,” Grand Junction resident Buffy Lake told KKCO/KJCT. “I’m very shocked he still has his medical license.”
According to the Care2 Petition calling for the state to revoke King’s license, the woman was unaware he dyed her genitals until she used the bathroom at home and noticed purple dye on the toilet paper. The petition has garnered more than 30,000 signatures as of Friday.
