DUBLIN, Ohio (WCMH) — A new central Ohio brewery led by a gastrointestinal surgeon with a passion for beer is readying to welcome customers.

Bridge’s End Brewing has been under construction since early 2024 at 9320 Dublin Road in Shawnee Hills and will open this spring, according to the brewery’s site. The project has been several years in the making for Bill Schirmer, a surgery specialist and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine graduate, whose home brewing motivated him to launch Bridge’s End.

“The COVID pandemic, and the accompanying mandatory six-week hiatus from performing elective surgery, forced Bill to think about his retirement,” Bridge’s End site states. “After a long and satisfying surgical career, four kids, eight grandkids and forty-plus years of marriage, Bridge’s End was born.”

Shirmer announced his plan for Bridge’s End in December 2021 alongside his wife, Karen, and originally targeted a fall 2024 opening. Since then, the couple has brought the brewery to life at the intersection of Dublin Road and West Old Powell Road, next to Hellas Carryout. Previously a park space for community events, the property is now home to a more than 5,000-square-foot brewery with room for 200 inside and another 200 across the 3,600-square-foot outdoor space.

Social media posts show that the brewery’s final touches are in place, like brewhouse equipment, the front metal archway, indoor signage, lighting fixtures, flooring and a walk-in cooler. A sprawling front patio has been poured with cascading string lights and a walk-up window that will act as a “built-in food truck,” the brewery said.

Once open, the brewery will feature a series of beers on tap and a full-service restaurant cooking up a menu of shareable items and small plates. The space will also be available for city events, as Schirmer is aiming to cultivate a community space for beer lovers and foodies alike that “feels like you’re stepping into our home.”

“For over 30 years, our family has been brewing and sharing our creations with close friends and family to celebrate special occasions or to just kick back and enjoy after a hard day’s work,” Bridge’s End states. “We hope you’ll come to Bridge’s End to do the same.”

Bridge’s End is one of several new breweries opening in the area, like Shawnee Station Taproom, boasted as one of Ohio’s oldest craft breweries based in Toledo and home to the state’s “most renowned beermakers.” The new location is now welcoming guests at 6058 Glick Road in Powell after launching last year.

Rise Brands, the group operating Pins Mechanical Co., is transforming The Bogey Inn, a historic bar near Muirfield Village Golf Club that closed in 2022, into an “entertainment campus.” New renderings released Monday show how the company is building indoor and outdoor bars, a food hall, and a 36-hole putting course.
