COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — The push continues to save lives by donating blood.

On Monday, Versiti Blood Center hosted a blood drive at Co-Hatch Gateway in Columbus’ University District.

The drive comes as blood supplies remain low across the country, with a string of winter storms, wildfires, and other severe weather events causing the cancellation of hundreds of blood drives.

Versiti said blood from Monday’s drive is going to Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, which needs around 60,000 units of blood every year, with one regular blood donation able to save three lives.

Versiti hosts blood drives across the city. In addition, walk-in donations are welcome at its blood center headquarters in the Mill Run area of Hilliard.
