(WKBN) – Tim Ryan’s political career may not be over yet. The former Congressman is considering a run for Governor.

Mike Morley, a senior advisor to Tim Ryan and the former chairman of the Mahoning County Democratic Party, said the former congressman is “definitely” considering a run for governor.

“Tim has been asked by many people over the last few months to consider getting back in the political environment, consider running for governor, especially people in the Valley. They’d love to see someone with his skills, credentials and history of supporting people in the Valley. He is seriously, seriously considering it. He’s listening to a lot of people and speaking with a lot of people,” Morley said.

Ryan represented the Youngstown area in the U.S. House of Representatives for 20 years.  He currently lives in the Columbus area and is a consultant for various businesses.

“He is coaching his son’s fourth-grade basketball team — enjoying that immensely,” Morley said. “He is a very happy person, but he’s also someone who’s committed to the people of the state.”

Ryan’s last venture into politics was in 2022 when he lost the Ohio U.S. Senate race to Republican JD Vance, who received the endorsement of Donald Trump. Trump has already endorsed Vivek Ramaswamy for Governor.

“Tim would be very confident that he would beat a Donald Trump-endorsed candidate,” Morley said. “He is someone who knows the state of Ohio, knows the aspirations of the people of the state of Ohio. He is confident that he would beat Ramaswamey or whoever the Republicans might be.”

Morley did not have a timetable on when Ryan would decide if he would run for governor, but when asked if we could expect a decision soon, Morley said, “I think that’s reasonable.”
