COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Comedian Dave Chappelle is once again heading to “Summer Camp” in rural Ohio, announcing dates for his “Chappelle and Friends” series in his hometown of Yellow Springs.
Chappelle revealed the dates with a graphic on his Instagram account, which received hundreds of comments and tens of thousands of likes.
“This was the coolest thing we ever went to,” wrote one fan. “The no phones, in a cornfield, just made for a whole different vibe! I can’t wait to go again!!”
The shows are held at the Wirrig Pavilion, an open-air venue just outside Yellow Springs on U.S. 68.
The first set of performances will be held on Wednesday, July 2, Thursday, July 3 and Saturday, July 5. In August, the show will return for six more nights, including Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 14-16, and Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 21-23. All shows will start at 8 p.m.
Tickets for all performances go on sale to the general public at noon on Friday, June 6.
As with previous events, these will be cellphone-free shows. Attendees must agree to place their phones in a locked pouch, which they keep throughout the evening. To use a phone during the event, audience members must return to a tent at the entrance or face being ejected.
Chappelle’s summer comedy tradition in Yellow Springs began in 2020 with socially distanced shows. The live outdoor performances were known as “Chappelle Summer Camp,” featuring Chappelle and other famous comedians.
Additionally, the comedy star has been consistently hosting his “Soundcheck Series” at the YS Firehouse, a former fire station in Yellow Springs he purchased and remodeled as a restaurant and comedy club. Upcoming June engagements include central Ohio comedian Matt Rife and actor and standup artist Mike Epps.
For fans who like to travel, Chappelle will appear in Abu Dabi on Friday, June 27.
