ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) – Police say a registered sex offender bit a St. Petersburg teenager who was trying to keep the offender from escaping, after he molested the teen’s 3-year-old sister.

Bernard Jones, 50, was arrested on multiple charges in connection with the incident. It happened at 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 3 at a home in St. Petersburg.

Investigators say the mother of the victim walked into her 3-year-old daughter’s bedroom and witnessed her boyfriend, Bernard Jones, performing a sex act on the child.

The mother called out for her teenage son for help and they wrestled Jones to the floor. Jones bit the teenage son, escaped and ran to a nearby home at 1737 41st St. South.

The mother called police and officers found Jones and arrested him.

Jones was charged with capital sexual battery, lewd and lascivious molestation on a child under 12, and aggravated battery for biting the teen.

Jones is a registered sex offender in Florida. Online records say he was convicted of sexual battery against a child under 12 and kidnapping in 2001 in Miami-Dade County.
