(NBC News)–Even in the wake of data hacks and security breaches, a study of 2 million leaked online passwords shows that people stick to simplicity–even as simple as the password “password.”
Popular “Star Wars”-related terms such as “starwars,” “solo” and “princess” were new entries on the annual list. SplashData, a password management applications company, has released the list annually since 2011.
“Star Wars” terms aside, the 2015 list wasn’t all that different from 2014 and years prior. “123456” and “password” once again were the most commonly used passwords, as they have been since 2011. Six of the top 10 passwords for 2015 were simple numerical sequences (“1234,” “12345,” “123456” and so on).
The passwords evaluated are mostly from North American and Western European users.

SplashData said on its website that the list “shows that many people continue to put themselves at risk for hacking and identity theft by using weak, easily guessable passwords.”
