The holiday travel rush comes after a massive blackout at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, the world’s busiest airport, on Sunday. The outage stranded thousands of travelers for nearly 11 hours and forced the cancellation of more than 1,500 flights.

Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport general manager Roosevelt Council Jr. said in a statement on Wednesday that the outage happened after circuit cables and switching mechanisms were damaged in a fire caused by a failed piece of equipment in an underground electrical facility.Stay tuned to NBC4 and NBC4i.com for real-time updates on local traffic conditions. To get alerts for breaking news, grab the free NBC4 News App for iPhone or Android.
