COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Anchor Jerod Smalley sat down with NBC4’s Remarkable Woman for 2024 Imani Jones to talk about her plans for the future.
Jones leads the Department of Chaplaincy at the Wexner Medical Center, she is also a pastor alongside her husband. As a child, Imani overcame numerous obstacles, including pregnancy as a teenager. This weekend she will head to Los Angeles to gather with Remarkable Women from across the nation.
Here is an excerpt from their conversation:
JEROD SMALLEY: Now that you get to go to Los Angeles and be honored for this, what do you hope to gain from that experience?
IMANI JONES: I hope to connect with people and to learn more about their stories and how they’ve persevered, and they’ve overcome. I hope to, to learn and to be inspired by the stories of other people. I believe that all of us human beings are connected. And so, what I’m looking forward to is meeting other people and finding those points of connection, because I believe that that will help me to continue on my journey as well.
JEROD SMALLEY: Would you like to have a big check?
IMANI JONES: Who wouldn’t?
JEROD SMALLEY: Well, it’d be my honor to give you one.
IMANI JONES: The Star House is a great organization, helping youth who are homeless and who are trying to navigate the world. And if I can just offer some hope through this contribution, it makes me feel grateful for the opportunity.
JEROD SMALLEY: Well, congratulations. We hope you’ll accept this, knowing that 15 hundred dollars is a good bit of money, but you’re priceless. And we are absolutely thrilled that you are the recipient of this award. So here you go.
IMANI JONES: Thank you so much.
