WCMH (COLUMBUS, Ohio) – Throughout history, Black Americans were consistently subjected to discrimination being denied basic rights as citizens. Yet, they persevered, pushing past denial, exclusion and segregation.
Retired United States Marine Corps Major, James Capers Jr., is among the many who rose above the racism. He is recognized as the first Black Marine officer to receive a battlefield commission. He’s also the first Black marine officer to command a Force Reconnaissance Company.
You can meet him during “An Evening with Capers” at the National Veterans Memorial and Museum on February 21 at 6 p.m. You can purchase tickets at NationalVMM.org.
He’s also featured in a documentary series, “BLK OPS: Uncommon Stories of Special Operations Forces”. You can watch his episode, “The Real-Life Equalizer”, on Amazon Prime within the month though guests can watch it exclusively during the event.
BLK OPS Season 1 is available to watch now Amazon Prime. It features the stories of Black Military Veterans who served in special operations. Learn more at BLKOPSVHP.com
